This Hot honey chicken sandwich made with marinated grilled chicken breast, fried buns, creamy hot honey mustard dressing and fresh toppings such as lettuce, pickles, coleslaw or pepperoni cheese.
Made by my favorite hot honey and grilled to perfection, it quickly replaces a classic hamburger as my barbecue sandwich.

Holly’s Recipe Highlights: Hot honey chicken sandwich

Total time. 47 minutes Services: 4 burgers Cooking method: Grilled
Ingredient notes

- Chicken breast. Cook the chicken to ½ inch thickness so it cooks at the same rate and stays on the grill gently. Large chicken breasts can be cut in half horizontally before battering.
- Buns. Brioche rolls offer a soft, slightly sweet flavor that pairs well with warm honey, while regular hamburger buns are firm and budget-friendly.
- Hot honey. Used in both the marinade and the sauce, it adds sweet heat to the entire sandwich. Choose mild or extra spicy depending on your preferred heat level.
Variations
- Not hot honey. Use plain honey with a pinch of chili flakes, cayenne, or a little hot sauce, or follow these hot honey recipe to make your own.
- A softer sandwich. Skip the chili flakes and use carrots, tomatoes, and pickles instead of pepper jack.
- Cheesy version. After grilling, add pepper jack, cheddar or provolone to soften the hot chicken.
